AI Captions and Highlight Clips: Repurpose Live Shopping Replays Into Short Shoppable Videos

How to use LiveShoply's AI captions and AI-suggested highlight clips on the Growth plan and above to make replays accessible and turn long shows into short shoppable videos and stories.

A thirty-minute live show contains a lot of useful content: product demos, answers to common questions, styling tips and moments of real enthusiasm. But very few shoppers will watch thirty minutes of replay. They want the two minutes that are relevant to them, and many of them will watch with the sound off.

LiveShoply's AI tools address both problems. AI captions add text to your replays, and AI highlight clips suggest short segments that work well as standalone videos. This guide explains how both features work and how to use the results across your store.

Both tools are designed to save time rather than replace your judgment. They do the slow, mechanical part of the work, transcribing speech and scanning a long recording for promising moments, and leave the decisions to you: which captions need fixing, which clips are worth keeping, and where each one should appear in your store. A few minutes of review after each show is usually enough. If you already run shows regularly, these features are one of the most efficient ways to turn the effort you put into live video into lasting content. The sections below cover plan requirements, how each tool works, how to review the output, and a practical post-show routine you can follow after every broadcast to keep your product pages stocked with fresh video.

Why captions and clips matter

  • Silent viewing is common. On mobile, many people browse with sound off. Captions let them follow along.
  • Accessibility. Captions make your videos usable for viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Short videos fit product pages. A focused clip about one product is far more useful on its page than a full replay.
  • Finding moments manually takes time. Scrubbing through a long recording to find the good parts is tedious. AI suggestions give you a starting point.

Plan requirements

AI captions and AI highlight clips are available on the Growth plan and above. They work on replays in your video library, including recordings of live shows and premieres. Compare plans on the pricing page.

How AI captions work

When you generate captions for a replay, LiveShoply transcribes the spoken audio and creates timed captions that display over the video during playback. The process runs after the show ends, once the replay is available.

Caption quality depends heavily on audio quality. Clear speech, a decent microphone and minimal background music give the best results. Strong accents, overlapping speakers and technical product names can all reduce accuracy, which is why reviewing captions is worthwhile.

Tip: the single best way to improve AI captions is a better microphone. A clip-on lavalier mic close to the host's mouth often matters more than any setting. See our equipment setup guide.

Reviewing and editing captions

Treat AI captions as a strong first draft. Before publishing a replay with captions, watch through key sections and check:

  • Brand and product names. These are the words most likely to be misheard.
  • Prices and numbers. A wrong price in captions can cause confusion at checkout.
  • Material and sizing claims. "Cotton" versus "cotton blend" matters to shoppers.

Correct anything that would mislead a viewer. You do not need perfect punctuation, but facts should be right.

How AI highlight clips work

AI highlight clips analyze a replay and suggest short segments that are likely to work well on their own, such as a focused product demonstration, a clear explanation or an energetic moment. Each suggestion shows the start and end time and a preview so you can decide whether to keep it.

Suggestions are just that: suggestions. You choose which clips to save, and you can skip any that are not useful. Saved clips go into your video library like any other video.

Choosing the best clips

When reviewing suggested clips, look for segments that:

  • Focus on one product. Clips that jump between several items are harder to place.
  • Make sense without context. A viewer who has not seen the show should understand what is happening.
  • Show the product clearly. Close-ups, demonstrations and try-ons work better than talking heads.
  • Answer a common question. "How does it fit?", "Is it waterproof?", "How do I use it?"
  • Avoid expired offers. Skip clips where the host mentions a live-only deal or a giveaway that has ended.
  • Stay short. Clips of 30 seconds to two minutes usually work best.

Using clips as shoppable videos

Once a clip is saved, attach the relevant product and publish it as a shoppable video. It then appears in the shoppable videos block on that product's page, in playlists and in any other placement you have set up in your theme. Viewers can add the product to their cart from the video.

A practical workflow after every show:

  1. Generate captions for the replay.
  2. Review AI highlight clip suggestions.
  3. Save three to five strong clips, each focused on one product.
  4. Attach the product and publish each clip as a shoppable video.
  5. Group clips into a playlist for a collection or campaign page.

Over a few months, this builds a library of short product videos without any extra filming. Shoppable video counts depend on your plan: 10 on Free, 50 on Starter, 200 on Growth and 1,000 on Pro. For more on placing videos, read our guide to shoppable replays and the video library and shoppable videos on product pages.

It also helps to name clips descriptively in the video library. A title such as "Linen shirt fit and fabric close-up" makes it easy to find the right clip months later and gives shoppers context when the clip appears in a playlist. Consistent naming becomes more valuable as your library grows into dozens or hundreds of videos.

Using clips on social media

Short highlight clips are also natural material for stories and short-form posts on your social channels. You can use a clip to promote the replay ("Missed the show? Here is our favorite moment") or to announce your next show. Link back to your store so viewers land on the product or your live page at /apps/live, where they can shop.

Remember that shopping features such as pinned products and add to cart work on your Shopify storefront. On other platforms, the clip is a promotional video that drives traffic to your store.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to generate captions for every replay? No. Many merchants caption their most-watched replays and every clip used on product pages, since those get the most views. Start where viewers are.

Which languages are supported for captions? Captions are generated from the spoken audio of the replay. For best results, keep each show in a single language and use clear speech. Always review captions before publishing.

Can I trim a suggested clip? Suggestions give you a start and end point as a starting point. Choose clips that work on their own, and if a suggestion is close but not right, skip it and pick a different one.

Do clips use my shoppable video allowance? Clips you publish as shoppable videos count toward your plan's shoppable video limit, just like uploaded videos. Unpublish older clips if you approach the limit.

Are clips available on the Free or Starter plan? AI captions and AI highlight clips require Growth or Pro. On Free and Starter, you can still upload your own edited clips to the video library and publish them as shoppable videos.

How long does processing take? It depends on the length of the replay. Processing runs after the show, so plan to review captions and clips later the same day rather than immediately after going off air.

Limits and good habits

  • AI is not perfect. Always review captions and clips before publishing.
  • Audio quality determines caption quality. Invest in a microphone before worrying about anything else.
  • Respect guest permissions. If a co-host or guest appears in a clip, make sure they are comfortable with it being reused.
  • Keep clips current. Unpublish clips for discontinued products.
  • Track results. Use the Insights page to see which shows and videos are associated with orders.

AI captions and highlight clips turn each show into a set of reusable assets with very little extra work. See the full list of tools on the features page. If you have questions about AI features, reach the team via live chat on the in-app Help page.
